Midcentury Lakeside Gem.

On the Western Shores of Lake Michigan, lies this midcentury, prairie style gem of a home. Although this home was well-maintained over the decades, the house still needed a complete overhaul to accommodate the needs of the client’s, empty nesters who downsized from a 6000 sq. ft. house in which they raised their family, to this 2000 sq. ft. residence.

The clients love the outdoors and an organic, mountain feel. The original rift-sawn white oak millwork helped in bringing the outdoors in. The clients also requested a simple, soothing, flexible home so we took the best of what was there—the clean lines of the 50s and the large expanses of fixed glass—but then softened it all to appear fresh and youthful, rather than a time warp. With a 90 day time-line for completion, this project was a challenge from start to finish.
